The 2006 Employment Guide® Scholarship Recipients Are Selected Through
AH&LEF's Annual Scholarship Grant Program
Norfolk, VA, July 24, 2006 - The Employment Guide®
(www.EmploymentGuide.com) is proud to announce the first 25 scholarship
recipients from its scholarship fund, which is administered through the
American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) Annual
Scholarship Grant Program. The Employment Guide made a three-year
pledge of $75,000 to fund scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 each during
the fall 2006 and spring 2007 semesters.
Each winner will be known as a 2006 Employment
Guide Scholar.
"This is our first
involvement with the AH&LEF scholarship program," said Jeff Littlejohn,
Vice President and General Manager of The
Employment Guide. "It is very
exciting to reward outstanding students nationwide, from the University of
Memphis to Central Arizona College."
Jennifer Sanford, Director of
Corporate Partnerships for The Employment
Guide added, "The AH&LA is an association we have been a member of for
quite some time. Partnering with their Education Foundation is our way of
contributing to up-and-coming hospitality leaders."
The AH&LEF is the
charitable subsidiary of the American Hotel & Lodging Association
(AH&LA), and works toward securing the future of the lodging industry
through scholarships, school-to-career, and workforce development
programs. Last year, the Foundation
provided more than $800,000 through these initiatives and research projects,
and has disbursed more than $4.5 million through its scholarship and
educational programs since its inception.
AH&LEF's largest program
is the Annual Scholarship Grant Program, which is co-administered with 87
universities and colleges. For the 2006
academic year, the program will disburse a total of $261,000 from 10 named
scholarship funds to more than 200 hospitality management students. With a recent gift from The Employment Guide, AH&LEF was able to add eight schools on
its waiting list for this program, as well as increase funding allocations to
existing schools beginning in the 2006 academic year. The participating schools select each scholarship recipient based
upon academic performance, hospitality work experience, extracurricular
involvement, financial need, and personal
attributes.
"AH&LEF is pleased The Employment Guide has partnered with
AH&LEF to create a better future for the lodging industry," said AH&LA
and AH&LEF President and CEO Joseph A. McInerney. "This scholarship program
is one that will have a significant impact for many future hoteliers."
